Perfect Piping Buttercream Frosting

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter at room temperature
1/2 cup vegetable shortening 
4 cups sifted confectioners sugar
3-4 tbsps. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt

Step 1 - Beat butter and shortening together using the paddle attachment on medium speed for 1 minute, stopping to clean the sides of the bowl to make sure they are incorporated. Add in your vanilla and salt, blend on medium speed for another 30 seconds. 
Step 2 - Gradually add in your confectioners sugar in small batches on a low speed until incorporated before bringing up to a higher speed for another minute. Add in 2 tablespoons of the milk and then add in another 1-2 more until desired consistency for piping (I used all 4). Put into a piping bag with your choice of tip, I used Wilton tip #2D in the photo above. Fantastic frosting, hope you enjoy!
